President’s Blog January 2025
Dear All,
Happy New Year – Are we feeling optimistic for the forthcoming year?
Certainly the NHS looks to have big challenges ahead as we go through the winter season. I hope you are all keeping well!
The Society had a chance to socialise before Christmas when we ventured out on a festive walk at Cromford on 20th December. Meeting at the Mills car park, we took a leisurely walk along the canal and a puff up the inclines and back to Cromford Mill for lunch. No snow thankfully.
On 11th January a small group of us went on a guided tour of Claymills Pumping Station, near Burton. Why? I hear you ask! Well I’ve wanted to go for a long time, and it certainly was interesting having a guided tour of the mechanics and social history. We all agreed that we wanted to go and see it again when it is in steam.
It was worth waiting the extra week for submissions for the case and poster presentations evening. Thank you to all those who submitted posters and cases and to the judges as well. It was a most engaging evening and much appreciated by those who attended. We also presented the GEM Student prize.
There are several lectures in the offing, taking us up to March. Please do attend. Check the website for details.
I’m also making arrangements for the Summer Black Tie event – proposed date of Saturday 14th June. Please email me if you would like to attend sally.archerfor@ntlworld.com as I need to get a rough idea of numbers.
Best Wishes for the New Year, I hope I get to meet some of you at the forthcoming events.
Sally
