Hello All,
I can’t believe how quickly the year is flying by. We are well into Autumn now with Christmas fast approaching!
Our last 2 lectures have been interesting and challenging.
We were very honored to have Prof Emily Jackson, lecturer in Law from LSE, share her thoughts and insights into the Assisted Dying Bill which is fast approaching in Parliament. It stimulated much interest and discussion and is clearly a complex subject.
Our brains were stimulated in a different way when we had Prof Steve Peters [Author of Chimp Paradox fame] who explained our brain anatomy and chemistry and how it affects our emotions and behavior. Our instincts are personified by the Chimp-and Prof Peters exhorted us to make friends with ‘your inner Chimp’!
I have started a walking group for DMS members and family and friends. ‘A walk round Caulk’ only attracted a few members- it was a dry day and the 5mile walk with chat and birdwatching was very enjoyable.
The next walk is on Friday 20th December starting at Cromford Mills.in the morning -returning in time for lunch at the café or pub in Cromford. It will be a similar length with a bit of uppage on the inclines. Details on the website nearer the time.

A group of us enjoyed a guided tour of the Rolls-Royce Heritage Centre on 12th November. We were fortunate to have a very knowledgeable and interesting guide for the morning
Our next outing/tour is on Saturday 11th January to the Claymills Pumping station in Burton. I will leave a sign-up form at the welcome at the next 2 lectures. You can also request a place by emailing me sally.archerfour@ntlworld.com Family and friends are welcome. Cost £6 per person
